Motor Racing
Racing cars is like sex...
its much more fun doing it than watching it....

Fast achieved a long held ambition to race a
fully prepared Caterham
in the Roadsport Challenge.
First I had to get my racing
licence application from the Motor
Sports Association, then pass a medical and take my ARDS,
which is a driving and theory test for racing drivers. Then
I joined the British
Racing Sports Car Club and entered my first race.

Race days are busy enough
without having to worry about the best settings for the car,
so I hired my drive from Spurr Engineering. The car was prepared
and delivered to each race by Spurr Engineering and Caterham
rules dictate that everyone has the same engine, tyres etc.
to ensure close and fair racing, so good preparation is essential.
When I say close, you will be lucky to finish a race with
all of your mudguards.
To give you some idea of
the performance available a good Caterham Superlight puts
out 200 bhp and weighs in at half the new mini.

Adrenalin Factor: 80% - mumyyyyyyy - wheel to wheel
action from start to finish
Injury Factor:
15% - Motor racing looks very dangerous and you
will sometimes see a car spinning through the air shedding
wheels, but 6 point race harness with arm restraints, fireproof
underwear and surrounded in a steel cage you are well protected.
Expense
Factor: 90% - The Caterham
may look like a simple car and therefore cheap to race, but
each event could cost you £1,000, so you will need deep
pockets or a good sponsor, but it is still one of the cheaper
forms of serious motor racing.

Very Costly
but good for a laugh and a relatively safe thing to try. PS
leave your brains in the toolbox before each race.
